Trend Alert:

exposed athletic socks, comfy kicks, and just the right amount of ankle skin

–don’t show too much, leave room for the imagination!

Desert Notes

“Wait for everything to get undressed and go to sleep.  Forget to explain to yourself why you are here.  Listen attentively.  Just before dawn you will finally hear faint music.  This is the sound of the loudest dreaming, the dreams of boulders.  Continue to listen until the music isn’t there.  What you thought about boulders will evaporate and what you know will become clear.  Each night it will be harder.  Listen until you hear the dreams of the dust that settles on your head.”

Mysterical Marfa

Erica and I left Waco at 1:30am.

We drove through the night with the moon as our guide.

Twenty minutes into the journey we saw our first deer, then our fifth.

We had not thought of deer, only the need to stay awake and to make it to Marfa by 10am, just in time for our Chinati tour.

The “ready to jump in front of your car at any moment deer” kept us awake .

We only drank 1.333333 of those mason jars of energy.

The road goes up and down a lot.

When you are going up, you cannot be sure the road will continue on

or if you will drive off the edge of something

or be greeted by a herd of deer.

The moon disappeared around 3:30am.

We could only see the road directly in front of us and the all too frequent herd/clan/family of deer…

…ready to jump in front of our car and end us.

In all, we saw 292 deer, but we like to think it was the same 15 deer following us the whole way.

When the sun started rising, we were finally able to see beyond the road.  It was magic.

We were in Big Bend —  We were on top of the world and could see forever.

A couple hours or minutes or moments later, we made it!

We pulled into a gas station and to our left was the Ballroom.

We checked in at El Cosmico and took a nap in our scout tent.

After our nap:

-we ate dinner at Boyz 2 Men (had the best pulled pork taco. ever.)

-we watched a local band perform at Planet Marfa, the local beer garden.

-we got tickets to Beach House.

after the show, we returned to our campsite for some much needed sleep.

The next morning we drove out to the Prada store, visited the AYN foundation (Andy Warhol’s Last Supper series), grabbed some last minute snacks for the road at The Get Go, and started our drive back to Waco.
